| RCMP not keeping members safe, officer's widow says
The widow of a slain RCMP officer is calling for changes in the way the force patrols remote communities in the North, saying her husband would still be alive if a mandatory backup policy had been in place. Jodie Worden is the widow of Const. Christopher Worden.(CBC) "The RCMP as an organization is not doing enough to keep the members safe," said Jodie Worden, whose husband, Const. Christopher Worden, 30, was gunned down in Hay River, N.W.T., last month. "They have no idea the demands and the expectations that are put on regular members up in the North," she told CBC News Thursday. Worden's comments follow the death of Const. Douglas Scott, 20, who was shot and killed earlier this week while responding to a drunk-driving complaint in Kimmirut, Nunavut.
US Consumers Oblivious to GM Food Fears
This whole arrangement reminds me of the nightmare of Axis Chemical in the movie Batman. Unfortunately in our sad tale, there is not one homocidal "Joker", but rather 500 of them on wall street. The poor guy at the frankenfood market is now screwed. His choice is GM chromsomal damage from mountains of processed poison in plastic bags or GM chromosomal damage from GM gene spliced frankenproduce. Megacorps like Monsanto have only been playing God with your food for a few years now. Nobody knows the mortality rates or Cancer incidence that will crop up ten years from now. We all are now lab rats. .

Well, it's almost time for me to head off to Australia. Tomorrow, actually, but this might be my last chance to get in a blog before then. I will try to blog while there but won't promise. Christmas is over and it was quite a pleasant one. My son visited from Las Vegas and he said he had a good time. It looks like he is set on going back to college full time to qualify as an accountant. He did one class last semester and got an A, so it looks like he should do OK in that field. He has quite a bit of money coming to him for education from the time he spent in the United States Air Force; at least enough for about two years of college. We spent Christmas Eve morning at my wife's parents then headed to Pensacola Beach, Florida to where my wife's sister and family live. Lots of gifts were handed around and we all ate and drank too much.
Packers, Giants Fans Ready To Take On Cold
The hand warmers that many fans commented on are in high demand but thanks to a corporate donation, they won't be hard to find come game time. Mills Fleet Farm donated 30,000 hand warmers to the Green Bay Packers, and they will be distributed to fans as they enter the gate for Sunday's game. .
Prison worker took drugs into jail
She was stopped and searched on October 23, 2006, when a sniffer dog showed an interest in the bag she was carrying. Heroin and cannabis with an estimated value of £21,000 was found inside a coffee jar. The court was told that rumours about Powell’s relationship with an inmate were circulating in the prison. She said she took the drugs into the jail because she had received a letter threatening exposure. Simon Drew, for the defence, said that Powell was full of remorse and shame for "this single incident". .

This is my entry for JD'S Great Blog Crossover Challenge II. As some of you already know, I am an Ohio State Buckeye fan who resides in the Heart of Texas among some of the most die hard and passionate fans in this country...Texas Longhorn fans! The College football fan base in general is the most interesting group of sports fans to observe. In my opinion they are more colorful and crazed than any Professional Football, Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey fan base and the Texas Longhorn fan is indeed an interesting breed. The University of Texas is located in the great city of Austin. One of the coolest cities in the United States. Known for it's hospitable atmosphere and great night life. It has been called the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and I've have found that to be true. But on Saturdays in the fall it's all about the Longhorns.

Like bee swarms, hundreds of Canada geese crisscrossed the water. Cormorants glowed in the setting sun. Ducks produced beeps, peeps, honks, and squeaks, squawks and whistles. I saw coot, gadwall, scaup, bufflehead, widgeon, redhead, goldeneye, black duck, ruddy duck and three types of merganser. Some of the smaller waterfowl fed in a massed frenzy, looking like a scrum of rugby players. A northern harrier, also called a marsh hawk, passed overhead, as did a great blue heron, which croaked like a movie dinosaur. A rough-legged hawk hovered over the sand dunes near Moonstone Beach. I heard the rattle of a kingfisher. Nearby was a sandhill crane, noted by birdwatchers for weeks, but we did not see it. I caught up with my family at one of the observation decks, where a sea-freshened breeze rattled leaves on young white oaks.
