I see that there are already many great blogs posted on last nights BCS Title Game and another recap is not needed. However, I have a few final thoughts on this game and the Buckeye season. First, congratulations to Les Miles and his LSU Tigers. They were the dominate team on both sides of the ball for the final three quarters of this game and are deserving Champions. For the past month I was slowly able to convince myself that the Buckeyes had a shot at a victory in this game. In order for them to pull off the upset they would of had to play the perfect game. Their overall team effort was certainly better than the one the they put forth in last years game against Flordia, but perfect they were not. Turnovers and really stupid penalties kept this game from being close and the final result was much the same as last year...A sizeable loss.

Sidney graduate Simonds gives Colgate football a lift

Sidney graduate Pat Simonds is catching on at Colgate University.

Simonds caught his first collegiate touchdown pass a week earlier, helping to rally Colgate to a 31-28 overtime victory over host Dartmouth on Sept. 15. His 17-yard TD reception pulled the Raiders within 28-20 with 10 minutes, 31 seconds left in regulation.

UWI at 60 - Its role in nation building

The University of the West Indies officially begins its 60th anniversary celebrations today. Those 60 years were directed at producing a new Caribbean from out of the old. The next 60 years will have to be about producing a global Caribbean and happily the UWI has a strategic plan in place to equip it to do so.

The UWI was a product of many things happening at once - modernisation, decolonisation, regionalisation, and nation building. One of the sins ofcolonialism was that for 300 years the British never saw it fit to build a university in the region. It was only after a series of riots in the 1930s that a British commission realised the need to promote a middle class in preparation for eventual self-government. Before adult suffrage, there was no university in Jamaica. By the start of the new century, almost 15 per cent of Jamaicans had access to tertiary education.

This is my entry for JD'S Great Blog Crossover Challenge II. As some of you already know, I am an Ohio State Buckeye fan who resides in the Heart of Texas among some of the most die hard and passionate fans in this country...Texas Longhorn fans! The College football fan base in general is the most interesting group of sports fans to observe. In my opinion they are more colorful and crazed than any Professional Football, Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey fan base and the Texas Longhorn fan is indeed an interesting breed. The University of Texas is located in the great city of Austin. One of the coolest cities in the United States. Known for it's hospitable atmosphere and great night life. It has been called the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and I've have found that to be true. But on Saturdays in the fall it's all about the Longhorns.

NFL gets the TMQ seal of approval

Detroit finished last in defense, 19th in offense, and coach Rod Marinelli, who supervises the defense, fired offensive coordinator Mike Martz, seeming to blame him for the team's late-season collapse. Herm "I Honor My Contact When I'm in the Mood" Edwards just fired his entire offensive staff. The grapevine says Mike "The Ultimate Leader" Shanahan might fire defensive coordinator Jim Bates, one year after firing defensive coordinator Larry Coyer. Apparently, all these assistant coaches did terrible jobs -- they must all have forgotten how to coach! -- while all the head coaches in question were in no way responsible. "Win as a team, lose as a team" means that when you lose, all coaches are equally to blame. Instead, coaches shift blame by cashiering assistants, either implying or stating outright that whatever went wrong was the assistants' fault.
