The Buzz: (Foot) long story

In what can only be described as a tale of heroes and villains, one current and two former Florida football players were arrested after causing a disturbance at a campus sandwich shop. One of the accused is now a professional runner and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended (maybe he was wearing Crocs). According to the Gainesville police report, an employee asked the trio to pay for a bag of snacks, and they responded by throwing items at the worker. Talk about not responding well when the chips are down.

Tuning in

The Patriots-Ravens telecast last Monday pulled in an audience of 17.5 million, the largest ever for a cable program, topping the 17.2 million who watched "High School Musical 2" in August. Perhaps the Ravens should view the Disney drama - they might learn something about harmony.

It's about 30 minutes before kick off of the Chick Fil A Bowl where Auburn will be taking on the talented Clemson Tigers. I wanted to give my quick thoughts on why I believe Auburn will win this game. 1. While Clemson has a very strong running game, Auburn has faced the tandem of McFadden & Felix Jones when they played Arkansas earlier in the season & they virtually shut down the Hogs excellent rushing attack. I don't believe the Clemson RB's to be superior to those two so I think that will be a big factor in Auburn's favor. 2. The "mystery" spread option attack. While AU certainly has not had time to install the full package due to the limited amount of practice time allowed since they hired new OC Tony Franklin, I think this unknown element will cause some defensive problems for Clemson.

Silent majority claim Old Trafford has been ‘turned into police ...

At a recent Manchester United home match there was a first-time Old Trafford visitor sitting a few rows in front of the press box. You could tell that he was a first-timer because he wore a look last seen on the face of Charlie Bucket on entering Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. As the clock ticked down towards kick-off, he joined in the songs being pumped out over the PA system and tried in vain to use his camera to take the perfect photograph against this famous backdrop. He looked as if he was in heaven.

Then the match started and a hush fell over the so-called Theatre of Dreams. As he exhorted his fellow supporters to stand and join in his chants, the middle-aged man began to attract a combination of amusement, bemusement and disdain from those sitting around him. Some looked towards a nearby steward, as if to ask what he planned to do with this upstart.

CD Reviews

Perhaps you remember Chingy's '03 party-rap hit Right Thurr. If not, too bad -- you won't find much here to remember him by. The St. Loo rapper's forgettable fourth disc consists mostly of lightweight beats and poppy synth melodies, topped with the ever-mellow Chingy's nasal sing-song vocals and repetitive lyrics. You might not hate it, but there's little to love here eithurr. .

Granholm backs Cobo expansion

She said the proposed 120,000 square-foot expansion shows the region is fighting other states to retain the North American International Auto Show, an economic juggernaut held at Cobo that generates almost $600 million a year for the local economy.

"We must have it stay in the city from here on out," Granholm said. "We will fight to keep it."

The plan faces legislative hurdles, tax extensions and approval of several financial transactions in order to work. Barring roadblocks, construction could be finished and Cobo ready for the 2011 auto show, Assistant Wayne County Executive Matthew Schenk said.

The one key player missing from Thursday's unveiling was long-time skeptic L. Brooks Patterson, the Oakland County executive who has offered rival expansion plans and questioned expenses and tax spending.

The CNN Wire: Saturday, Dec. 8

ET, Federal Aviation Administration Kathleen Bergen told CNN. The Piper was headed from Ocala, Fla., to Pompano Beach, she said. Authorities believe only one person was on board.

A search of registration numbers showed the Piper aircraft is registered to an individual in Waverly, Pa. (Posted 5:59 p.m.)

Shuttle launch to take place Sunday

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. (CNN) -- NASA managers have confirmed they will launch space shuttle Atlantis Sunday at 3:21 p.m., Kennedy Space Center spokesman Allard Beutel said.

The launch had been originally scheduled for Thursday but was postponed until Saturday after two of the four engine cut-off sensors for the spacecraft's external fuel tank failed during pre-flight testing. On Friday, Beutel said the Saturday launch would be pushed to Sunday.

The Great Confederate Flag Controversy Surfaces In South Carolina (Again) and lo and behold it's again being used against Arizona Senator John McCain who's losing ground to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who — coincidentally — is coming out in favor of it waving there (apparently forever). Doug Clark getting patted down????

Good evening, ya'll...

I admit, I can two different sides of the video of Doug Clark being patted down by police shortly before climbing into an unmarked police car with Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, but I am uncertain which truly applies.

The first, as viewed through the eyes of a sworn member of the Spokane Police Department is WHY? Doug Clark, as far as I know, has been an upstanding citizen and area resident, has never been arrested, and has been a respected journalist for decades. Any police officer could discover that much within seconds using a city-issued laptop.

Then why would an officer pat him down as if he were a felony stop suspect?
