| Perseverance paid off for 8 inductees
There will be a common theme tonight when the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame welcomes eight new members. Perseverance. Hockey's Mike Bossy and Cassie Campbell, football's Doug Flutie, wrestler Daniel Igali, Olympic cross-country skier Beckie Scott, baseball's Larry Walker and sports pioneers Sam Jacks and Robert Steadward all overcame obstacles and doubters to reach the pinnacle of their sports or to make sports more accessible to others. .
The Buzz: (Foot) long story
In what can only be described as a tale of heroes and villains, one current and two former Florida football players were arrested after causing a disturbance at a campus sandwich shop. One of the accused is now a professional runner and tried to flee on foot but was apprehended (maybe he was wearing Crocs). According to the Gainesville police report, an employee asked the trio to pay for a bag of snacks, and they responded by throwing items at the worker. Talk about not responding well when the chips are down. Tuning in The Patriots-Ravens telecast last Monday pulled in an audience of 17.5 million, the largest ever for a cable program, topping the 17.2 million who watched "High School Musical 2" in August. Perhaps the Ravens should view the Disney drama - they might learn something about harmony.

Constitutional Law professor/lecturer at the University of Chicago. Illinois State Senate * Welfare legislation * Created the Earned Income Tax Credit program that gave over $100 million in tax cuts for families throughout Illinois over 3 years. * Expanded early childhood education * Enlisted the support of law enforcement officials to draft legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases. * Passed, with U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL), the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned most gifts from lobbyists. * Barack Obama sponsored and passed legislation that expanded health care coverage to 70,000 kids and 84,000 adults.

UWI at 60 - Its role in nation building
The University of the West Indies officially begins its 60th anniversary celebrations today. Those 60 years were directed at producing a new Caribbean from out of the old. The next 60 years will have to be about producing a global Caribbean and happily the UWI has a strategic plan in place to equip it to do so. The UWI was a product of many things happening at once - modernisation, decolonisation, regionalisation, and nation building. One of the sins ofcolonialism was that for 300 years the British never saw it fit to build a university in the region. It was only after a series of riots in the 1930s that a British commission realised the need to promote a middle class in preparation for eventual self-government. Before adult suffrage, there was no university in Jamaica. By the start of the new century, almost 15 per cent of Jamaicans had access to tertiary education.

It's about 30 minutes before kick off of the Chick Fil A Bowl where Auburn will be taking on the talented Clemson Tigers. I wanted to give my quick thoughts on why I believe Auburn will win this game. 1. While Clemson has a very strong running game, Auburn has faced the tandem of McFadden & Felix Jones when they played Arkansas earlier in the season & they virtually shut down the Hogs excellent rushing attack. I don't believe the Clemson RB's to be superior to those two so I think that will be a big factor in Auburn's favor. 2. The "mystery" spread option attack. While AU certainly has not had time to install the full package due to the limited amount of practice time allowed since they hired new OC Tony Franklin, I think this unknown element will cause some defensive problems for Clemson.
